Complete story of “Nokia”!

Nokia is back in the game with it’s all new flagship mobile phone! So, this would be the correct time to know the rise, fall and rise of this most valuable brand “Nokia”. Nokia, one of the most successful mobile company of late 1990’s and early 2000’s. First mobile phone of most of you guys reading this might be from Nokia. But what happened to this company later on? Why this mobile giant back then, isn’t on par with it’s competitors later on? Let’s see the complete story from the start.

The company was started in the year 1865, but back then the company wasn’t a mobile manufacturing company. A mining engineer Fredrik Idestam started his first wood pulp mill in Sothern Finland and his second mill at the bank of the river Nokia. That’s how the company got it’s name. In the coming years, nokia started manufacturing rubber, tvs, wires, tires etc…In 1960’s at the time of cold war, there was a tension situation going on and the Finland government wanted military research on radio telephone communication. There you go, the company Nokia got the opportunity to do exactly that.

Rise:

By 1970’s the company started building car telephone network. Nokia also make the car communication devices reliable and small. By 1985, it expanded globally. In 1987, Nokia introduced its first mobile phone , it’s called Mobira Cityman 900. In 1992 Jorma Jaakko Ollila  became the CEO of Nokia, this was the golden time for the company. Jorma Jaakko Ollila only concentrated on mobile manufacturing and closed all other projects.

No company was so good as Nokia in making mobile phones, exactly the way they are ment to be. In 1992 the company introduced first ever GSM mobile phone to the world(Nokia 1011) . After that, in 1994 they introduced a mobile phone called Nokia 2110, which isn’t bulky as other contemporary phones were back then. Also it was the first phone to display missed calls, send and receive text messages.

In 1997, they released Nokia 6110, which gave the most loved, played and  fun game “the snake game”. It was the first phone ever to showcase that game. By 1998, nokia has become the number one mobile phone manufacturer. Until 2003, Nokia was unstoppable. It make 3g phones, camera phones etc… After 2003 Nokia started experimenting on design and all.

Fall:

In 2006, Nokia’s management changed. And N95 phone was released, which was a very good phone. But not as good as the phone released by Apple Inc. “The iPhone” with a capacitive full touch internet enabled mobile phone. Before the Nokia recovers from a big blow from Apple, Google released its mobile phone software “Android”. To compete these two devices, nokia released its 5800, which was good, but again couldn’t compete.

In 2008, in order to compete with other manufacturers, Nokia started working on software using its Symbian team and meego team. There was competition within the company, between Symbian and meego. Which inturn lead to delays. And the other wrong step took by the management of nokia was, denying to work with Android.

In 2010, Elop became the CEO. Elop was a former employee of Microsoft. They did released some bunch of very good phones at his time, but there was no team work at all and not many apps in their software meego when compared to the android and app store. So, meego was closed in 2012. In 2011 Nokia make a partnership with Microsoft. Later on a lot of phones powered by Microsoft were released. Even the partnership with Microsoft didn’t help nokia to see a big success. It was like the end of glory days for Nokia, Microsoft took over the mobile manufacturing  division. Elop, from the CEO of nokia, went on joining Microsoft again. This move of Elop raised a lot of questions.

Rise again:

Now, in 2017 Nokia is back after the contract with Microsoft. Now, Nokia can manufacture devices with its own brand. Recently Nokia has announced a new line of smart phones, which are amazing. I personally feel, Nokia might gain its charm back. I am looking forward to this years MWC ( mobile world congress) on February  27th.

Turn your table top into an Android tablet!!

Ever thought of turning your table top into a touch screen? well… This gadget does just that. Lazertouch is a new, small projector that can turn any table top or even a wall into an Android tablet. This gadget showed up in INDIEGOGO. To detect touches, Lazertouch puts out a laser that is parallel with the surface. The projector is portable, and has  13,600mAh battery inside.

This can be used just like any android tablet.. Watch out the video, that looks really good..

“Making water from air”. A self filling water bottle!!

As we know, there is water scarcity in many parts of the world. There are so many researchers working to find different ways to overcome this problem. One such solution is Fontus “self-filling” water bottle.

We actually can extract water from the moisture present in the air. An Austrian designer Kristof Retezár’s, put this theory into a water bottle. fontus-water-bottle-designboom03

This is a cool looking biking accessory, which turns air into water, when you ride. Fontus water bottle uses solar power to activate the condenser with a Peltier Element.

Fontus-sketch-660x230

It’s essentially a cooler with two chambers that facilitates condensation, and takes in air as the bike moves, which is then slowed and cooled down by barriers that allows it to condense and form water, which is channelled and collected in the bottle.

This auto filling water bottle can produce 0.5 liters of water in an hour. Well… This number varies from place to place, depending on the humidity and the temperature.

Fontus water bottle may not work in urban cities because of the pollution in the air.

This is a very useful device. Hoping for many more useful and productive solutions for water scarcity.

MOTO G 3rd Generation!

The Smart phone company Motorola Launched its flagship phone so called MOTO G 3rd generation successor to MOTO G. MOTO G is known for its high class features in low price.

The Moto G’s design has been refined and takes after moto x and Nexus 6. The glass screen is surrounded by metal-like plastic. The back now has a removable ribbed, curved plastic back and a silver metal bar that holds the camera.

Motorola Moto G (Gen 3) smartphone with 5.00-inch 720×1280 display powered by 1.4GHz processor alongside 1GB RAM and 13-megapixel rear camera. Moreover it is Water Resistant. Do checkout the review video above, explains pretty much every feature.

It has a 720p resolution, which is stretched across 5 inches. The display is entirely useable — reading, gaming, and using apps like Twitter and Facebook are just fine — but it’s not the finest for photos or videos. Direct lighting can create some issues with glare, although sunlight never posed a major problem.

This sells for $40 more than the previous one and includes twice as much RAM and storage (2GB and 16GB, respectively), so we can’t speak to the performance of the entry-level model, which sells for $179.99. It’s probably a good idea to jump up to the 2GB version if you’re concerned about performance; as for storage, you can always expand that with a microSD card.

“DISPLAY RESOLUTION” VS “PIXELS PER INCH”

Very often we come across the word “Resolution” for a video quality. So, let’s talk something about that. Resolution is the number of Pixels contained, expressed in terms of the number of pixels on the horizontal axis and the number on the vertical axis. The sharpness of the image on a display depends on the resolution and the size of the display.

The image below shows the pixel count for various video qualities.

resolutions-ultra-hd-4k-1080p-720p-dvd

So now, what’s PPI (Pixels Per Inch)? Well… There is some difference. When we look at the a small display with good resolution, that should be clear and sharp near the screen, but when the same image resolution is projected on a larger screen, we will not be able to see a clear image. The number of pixels i.e, the display resolution cannot explain this, there comes a new parameter called PPI  (Pixels Per Inch).

How to measure PPI?

PPI or Pixel Density is the number of pixels on the diagonal of 1 inch square of a display.

This clearly explains that, higher the size of the display, lower is the Pixel density (PPI). Also it doesn’t make any sense having insanely high Pixel density on a bigger display or on a smaller display either, because we cannot go that close to see that huge number of pixels. But yes the professional people having display’s with higher PPI, that kinda make sense, but an average consumer have to sacrifice some features like Power efficiency.

So. what do you think?

The “TURNING PHONE” from the company “TURNING ROBOTICS”

  • The Turing Phone’s “Beowulf” color option features a purple, black, and gold design.

  • The Turing Phone’s fingerprint sensor is located on the device’s left side, an unconventional spot compared to the iPhone and Galaxy S6.

  • Turing Robotics Industries claims the fingerprint sensor’s accuracy rivals Apple and Samsung.

  • This design is certainly unlike anything we’ve seen from the big manufacturers.

  • The Turing Phone’s internal frame and outside chrome are made from

SYL Chao CEO of TURNING ROBOTICS introduces the Turing Phone, an Android smartphone that aims to put security, durability, and fashion above all else. In a myriad of ways, the Turing is anything but your typical phone. There’s no headphone jack, and the thing doesn’t even have a USB connector. Instead, you charge it with a plug that looks like a clone of Apple’s MagSafe.

The device’s frame and exterior chrome are made of “liquidmorphium,” or liquid metal, which is claimed to be stronger than steel and titanium — and impervious to bending. The reflective qualities of liquidmorphium are unique.

The Turing is also fully waterproof thanks to a nanocoating that shields its internal components. It can survive dunks in the pool and most submersions without issue. Those internals aren’t top of the line, however; the Turing is powered by an aging 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 chip and features a 5.5-inch, 1080p display that falls short of today’s big-brand flagships in terms of sharpness. But Turing Robotics isn’t Samsung, and in fairness the screen looked fine.

Around back is a 13-megapixel camera, non-removable 3,000mAh battery, and integrated NFC chip.

Mind control your TV with all new technology of BBC

The BBC is experimenting with using a brainwave reading headset developed by London-based user experience studio This Place to allow users to control its iPlayer with their minds. The prototype is somewhat limited in functionality, but on the road to transforming our brains into joysticks, this is still an impressive step forward.

While this is unlikely to replace the remote control for your average user in the near future.

The electroencephalography (EEG) brainwave reading headset has one small sensor that rests on a user’s forehead and another on a clip that attaches to the ear which measure electrical activity in the brain

A user can select either ‘concentration’ or ‘meditation’ as the brain control mechanism. If the user selects ‘concentration’, the headset and app monitors their level of concentration and a ‘volume bar’ of brainwaves is displayed on the screen, to visually illustrate their level of concentration.

Once a certain threshold of concentration has been reached, a message is sent to the tablet to perform an action – in this case, to initially launch BBC iPlayer.

one at a time, changing programs every 10 seconds. When the program a user wants to watch is highlighted, they have 10 seconds to concentrate and open that program so that it starts playing.

So, what do you think about this?

“YOTAPHONE 2” A dual screen Smart Phone

The essence of the YotaPhone’s appeal lies in its combination of an extremely energy-efficient E Ink display with all the modern versatility of an Android smartphone. You have your smartphone with you, all the time anyway, why not build the e-reader right into it, the same way that cameras, music players, and GPS unit?

b4ad9f76505653717b4c5d74f45a31e3yotaphone-2-fronte-e-retro-1000-ok

There is a Yota Mirror mode that allows you to run Android entirely on the back, but this is strictly optional and mostly to be used when trying to extend battery life.

On the other side of the 4.7-inch E Ink screen is a 5-inch AMOLED display. The latter has a 1080p resolution, but suffers from poor color accuracy.

The same is true of the YotaPhone 2’s design. Much like its display, the phone’s construction is just okay, nothing especially premium. It has a well rounded, uncomplicated shape that makes for comfortable ergonomics,  a shallow power button that offers little tactile feedback.

Virtual Reality vs Holograms

These days the trend is to innovate, the technology giants all over the world are experimenting to innovate new thing rather improving same old stuff. The companies like Google and Microsoft are doing it. Now let’s talk something about those innovations.

Firstly VIRTUAL REALITY

The “Virtual Reality (VR), sometimes referred to as immersive multimedia. A Virtual Reality is that which shows us a virtual world, which actually isn’t real. For example to examine a specific place, Virtual reality makes us feel that we are really in the field. For example, if we put on our earphones, we only hear to the music created in the earphones. In a very similar way, the VR headsets word. The company Google did something great with it’s Google cardboard, which helps people all over the world to create their own DIY VR headsets with few simple steps. To make your own headsets, check it out here ,How to make VR headsets?

To learn about the Google cardboard here Google cardboard.

Now HOLOGRAMS

Unlike virtual reality, which takes us all the way to a new reality, Holograms are those which creates some 3 Dimensional objects in our “own reality”. The HoloLens can create realistic  3 dimensional images and place those images in the world around you. So, when we see through a hololens. we will be able to see all those realistic 3 dimensional objects created around us. It is nothing but Augmenting something into our own reality, so it is also known as AUGMENTED REALITY. The technology giant Microsoft has did something great with this concept of hologram.

“GOOGLE Project SOLI”, Replacing Physical Controls on Smart devices!!!

Google, a giant company, involved in various fields, . This company is pushing the boundaries of innovation. One of such greatest innovations in recent times is “The Project SOLI” which deals with the RADAR finger gestures to interact with our smart devices. Own finger-waving way to control the devices without having to reply on the smartphone. It’s Project Soli replaces the physical controls of smartwatches with your hands using radar to capture your movements.
